Abbey Hotel Ballyvourney

Extremely unpleasant experience here. On a tour for vacation, stayed here one night. We woke up the next morning smelling TERRIBLY of urine, just to find the bottom half of the mattress and sheets was saturated with old, dried urine. The smell was very strong on the mattress but the heavy comforter kept the smell from traveling in the room, so we didn't smell it the night before. Sheets seemed to have not been changed between guests. Let our tour guides know, who called the owner to request a different room for us. Owner was extremely rude to our guides on the phone, and unwillingly gave us a new room. Was upset because we accidentally left the "do not disturb" sign on the door, which he said he "legally was not allowed in the room" to clean the mattress (which, honestly, nobody should be sleeping on anyways if it is that saturated with pee!). When we returned to the hotel the owner continued to berate our tour guide, my husband and I, saying he needs the rooms because it is the busy season, yet did not apologize for the state of our room. In fact, when I asked him to come up and smell the mattress with us and our tour guide, he absolutely refused to, saying he had gone into the room already and not smelled anything. My husband asked how come he had gone into the room, even with the sign on the door, if legally he wasn't allowed? The owner said he was allowed since he "didn't touch our things." Our guide asked if that was the case... Why didn't he just clean the room like he wanted? He wouldn't have had to touch our belongings, because we had already packed them into our suitcases and put them neatly by the door. The owner didn't have an answer, and continued to get defensive and angry. In the end, we got the the run around about the dirty mattress, lectured on how it was an inconvenience for the owner, and exactly zero apologies for the state of our room. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. Stay somewhere else if you want to have a good experience!
